1884
Maître Horloger Christian Ruefli-Flury a highly talented watchmaker from Grenchen, Switzerland sets up his own matchmaking company in Biel-Bienne a famous city for its well educated watch engineers. Christian Ruefli-Flury calls his company “Edox” which comes from the ancient Greek, and signifies “the hour”.

1900
The hourglass was officially used as a timeless symbol of Edox and is since then a proud part of the official Edox company logo.

1955
After World War 2, demand for Edox watches continues to soar. Edox employed at that time up to 500 watchmakers. Edox moves into new and larger production facilities. It is said that Edox advanced at that time to the most modern watch factory in Switzerland. The high-tech machines allowed the production of highly water-resistant timepieces.

1961
The initial year of the world famous Delfin. It was the world’s first wristwatch with double case back and sturdy protective gaskets and seals that set new standards of shock protection and water resistance.

1963
The Edox Hydrosub became world famous for its first crown system with tension ring and shock – absorbing gasket for guaranteed water-resistance. This watch was water-resistant down to 500 meters. This was a very remarkable technical achievement in the early 60ths. Edox became world famous for highly water-resistant watches.

1970
The start of the 1970 witnessed the introduction of the world’s first truly universal time watch, the GEOSCOPE. Covering all time-zones, it provides the time of day in some 50 capital cities around the world along with the wearer’s local time.

1998
Edox engineers and watchmakers developed the world’s slimmest watch with calendar. Its movement has a height of only 1.4mm. Since 1999 Edox has been the world record holder for the slimmest watch collection with calendar.

2005
Natal year of the famous and highly complicated “Les Bémonts – Maître Horloger – 5 Minute Repeater”. A mechanical watch which is able to tell the exact time by its bell mechanism. The Edox 5 Minute Repeater is on of the world’s most complicated timepieces.

2006
Edox became the new exclusive watch partner of the 5 times consecutive Worldchampion of the Class-1 Offshore World Powerboat Championship.

2007
Basel April 12, 2007. Official launch of the new “Classe-Royale 5-Minute Repeater”. One of the worlds’s most complicated watches. Hand assembled for watch aficionados. Geneva March 8, 2007. During the Salon d’automobile de Genève the Swedish super sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg and Edox announced a new exciting partnership. Both companies share much common ground. The same passion for fine mechanism. The same combination of prestige and performance. The same heritage of excellence

2008
Edox is the official timekeeper of the Class-1 world powerboat championship. The Swiss brand advances to the world’s premier manufacturer of high class offshore timing instruments. It’s birth year of the 3rd Class-1 watch collection.

More
